Buffalo Sabres 2008 Mid-Season Report

By on January 20, 2008 in

Recap: The Buffalo Sabres looked like a lock for the playoffs after two months of NHL play but have recently gone colder then the weather in Buffalo. Over the past three weeks the team has the NHL’s worst record going (1-5-4) over that time span allowing the Bruins and Canadians to jump ahead of them in the division standings. Goaltender Ryan Miller has been overworked and needs an occasional night off. He has played in 42 of the teams 49 contests making 1060 saves, good for 5th best in the NHL. Seven players on the active roster have more then 10 goals but none are among the league leaders in points, goals, or assists.

2nd Half: The team is at a point where one of two situations will happen very shortly, both very possible. The first situation is they flat out call it quits, pack it and, and start making tee-times for April and May. We’ve seen it happen before, and this team is on the verge of dropping their sticks for their golf bags. The other option is very simple, start to win. If they can’t fix this recent funk they have no chance at the playoffs.

Team Name: Buffalo Sabres (20-21-6)

Northeast Division Standing: 4th place

Conference Standing: 12th place
Final Standing Predictions: 4th in Northeast Division, 12th in Eastern Conference
