Celtics starters Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen were all named to represent the Eastern Conference in this year’s All-Star game, which is set to take place on Sunday, February 20th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Their appearance will mark the first time since 1975 that Boston has showcased four All-Stars (John Havlicek, Dave Cowens, Paul Silas, Jo Jo White).
“I think we’ve all been very valuable to the team this first half of the season,” said Allen. “Especially between the starting five — the four of us that have been in there the majority of the time — we’ve been catalysts at some point where we’ve helped win games. It is difficult to say, ‘Well, Rondo was out,’ or, ‘If Paul was out,’ or, ‘I was out’ or ‘KG was out,’ you could make a case for all four of us.”
Al Horford and Joe Johnson of the Atlanta Hawks and Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat were the other reserves selected to play for the East. Western Conference reserves include Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs, Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks, Paul Gasol of the Los Angeles Lakers, Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz, Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers.
