Sox Close to Signing Japanese Catcher

By on February 7, 2008 in

The Red Sox are reportedly close to signing Hayato Doue, catcher for the Kagawa Olive Guyners. The 25 year old “defensive firearm” was the second-half MVP of the Shikoku Island League (a Japanese independent league) in 2007. In 298 at-bats last year, he hit .322 with 7 homers, 50 rbi, 54 walks, and 10 stolen bases. His defensive skills, as well as proficient hitting and speed on the basepaths would make him a solid long-term pickup for the Sox.

His last name is pronounced “doe-oo-ay”, by the way.

Boston Red Sox tickets are now available for all 2008 games.
