Gasol, Lakers Deny Celtics in OT

Paul Pierce had a clear shot at the hoop in the final seconds of overtime, just missing the potential go-ahead bucket before Pau Gasol blocked the ensuing Ray Allen attempt for the LA Lakers to win over the Boston Celtics 88-87 Thursday night at TD Garden. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers in scoring with 27 points. Gasol hit 12-of-20 from the floor for 25 points and also pulled down 14 rebounds.

“That shot that Ray Allen took was good, in my opinion,” Lakers coach Mike Brown said of the Celtics final possession. “But Pau did not stop playing until he heard the horn, and he came up with the big block.”

Allen netted 22 points and Kevin Garnett had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Boston. Rajon Rondo contributed 14 points and dished out seven assists. The C’s are currently en route to Toronto for their next game tonight against the Raptors. They will head back to the Garden Sunday to host the Chicago Bulls.
