Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bulls had the Celtics on top at Boston’s TD Garden with a final score of 95-91. It was Rajon Rondo’s game as he completed a triple-double, tying his career-high points total with 32 and had 10 rebounds and 15 assists.
Kevin Garnett had a double-double and finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds on the day. The Bulls had two players, Carlos Boozer and C.J. Watson, score 22 points each. KG came through with Boston’s initial basket after gaining a rebound off Luol Deng’s missed attempt. The Celtics went on a roll from there, taking a 14-6 lead. The first quarter ended with the Celtics ahead 28-23.
“I knew they’d come out like that, coming off their last two games,” said Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau. “They were very aggressive. I thought they got some very easy baskets early, which gave them confidence.”
The Bulls came within three points of the Celtics at the start of the second. The score remained close through the 12 minute block but the C’s kept the lead courtesy of Rondo’s three consecutive scores. The Bulls ended the first half with a layup from Boozer to pull within five.
Rondo started off the third quarter strong and paced the Celtics to a 59-50 lead. Chicago continued to battle and scored first in the fourth quarter to pull within four points, but a pair of Ray Allen jump shots put Boston ahead by 11. The Celtics, second in their division, now have a 15-12 record on the shortened season. Purchase your Boston Celtics tickets here at Ace!
