Dwight Howard posted 33 points and 17 rebounds to lead his Orlando Magic past the Detroit Pistons 116-91 yesterday at the Amway Arena. The game was reasonably close until the fourth quarter, where the Orlando defense held strong to allow just 14 points to their 33. Vince Carter shot well over 50 percent to claim 20 points on the night. Jameer Nelson and Rashard Lewis chipped in with 14 and 13, lifting Orlando to an impressive 21-5 record at home.
With the rest of the starters collectively covering their respective assignments, it was Howard who really took control with his physical play in the paint. “When there’s times on the court when you got to be physical like that, guys don’t back down on any challenge,” he said. “That’s what we have to do. We can’t back down from anybody.” The Magic are set to welcome the Dallas Mavericks on Friday as the Pistons return to host the Milwaukee Bucks.
