Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli was able to execute just before the trade deadline, landing three players to help strengthen the Bruins roster as they push to defend their Stanley Cup title. Chiarelli’s work will bring in defenseman Mike Mottau and forward Brian Rolston, acquired from the New York Islanders for prospects Yannick Riendeau and Marc Cantin, and defenseman Greg Zanon from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for defenseman Steven Kampfer.
“What I’ve seen over my time in hockey, defensemen can drop like flies,” Chiarelli said. “You can never have enough defensemen. We wanted to have eight NHL defensemen in the mix, so that was the blueprint I was working off of…Overall, it was a long day. I’m satisfied with the depth we’ve added, and the veteran presence.”
Mottau and his agent have previously expressed interest in playing for Boston. “I always said I’d take a puck in the teeth for the Bruins,” the 7-year veteran said in a recent interview. “Now I have a chance to do that.” The B’s are set to host the Ottawa Senators tonight at 7:00 PM. The New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders will also challenge the Bruins at TD Garden this week. Find the best available Boston Bruins ticket deals here at Ace!
