Red Sox third-baseman Mike Lowell went 1-3 with a single in his first game back since hip surgery. Lowell suffered a torn labrum in his hip-the same injury that Alex Rodriguez recently received surgery to repair. Lowell’s recovery took from October until a running session last week, and Sox manager Terry Francona was impressed with his return. “It’s nice to see him get a hit, because it was a good swing,” Francona said at a post-game press conference. “But it’s nice to see him in the game. We only were planning on giving him two at-bats.” Lowell will be in the lineup again on Friday against the New York Yankees.
Pitcher Clay Buchholz threw a no-hitter in just his second MLB start, but struggled greatly in the 2008 season. On Tuesday, however, the young pitcher dominated the O’s again. Buchholz struck out two in three perfect innings. After a tough first full season, the Sox hope that this is a sign that the pitcher has worked out any mechanical problems he may have had last year.
Boston Red Sox tickets are available now.
