Captain Zdeno Chara knocked in the go-ahead score on a power-play 8:17 into the second period before assisting Milan Lucic and Mark Recchi in each of their third period scores, leading the Boston Bruins to defeat the New Jersey Devils 4-1 last night at TD Garden. Lucic’s goal marked his 30th of the season while Tim Thomas notched his 30th victory in net, collecting 30 saves and conceding just one to Ilya Kovalchuk early in the first.
It was vital for the team to find their rhythm at home following their frustrating road losses in Nashville and Toronto. Boston had only earned one win in their last seven games leading up to yesterday’s contest. “We knew the guys felt the pressure of not winning lately,” said Bruins coach Claude Julien. “It could have easily been a situation where everybody starts to panic, everybody starts to yell and it doesn’t get any better, but we stayed with it as a group and we found a solution.”
The Bruins improved their Northeast Division points total to 90 with 10 games left, including seven at home. They are scheduled to host the Montreal Canadiens Thursday, March 24th before welcoming the New York Rangers into the Garden Saturday, March 26th.
