Celtics Sign Center Ryan Hollins, Waive Wilcox

The Boston Celtics have added center Ryan Hollins to their roster and waived forward/center Chris Wilcox as he prepares for season-ending aortic surgery next week. Standing at 7 feet, Hollins averaged 3.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 24 games for the Cleveland Caveliers this season. With both Wilcox and Jermaine O’Neal (wrist) sidelined for the rest of the year, the C’s were quick to sign Hollins just days after he was dropped by the Cavs.

The Celtics frontcourt should be solid now with Hollins and Greg Stiemsma controlling the inside game. Stiemsma collected six points, five blocks, four steals and four rebounds during Boston’s 100-91 win over the Milwaukee Bucks yesterday at Bradley Center.

After a pair of hard-fought road wins, the C’s stand at 25-21 to rank 7th in the Eastern Conference. “These last two wins have been big,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. “We felt like this game, we would have enough rest to play this game. We took two days off and that helped us.” Boston will conclude their eight-game road trip tonight in Philadelphia before returning home to matchup against the Washington Wizards on Sunday. Boston Celtics tickets are now available!
