Tenacious D comes to Boston’s Bank of America Pavilion on July 2. The performance is part of a tour for their new album, Rize of the Fenix, coming out on May 14. The rock band based out of California, has two members, actor comedian Jack Black and musician Kyle Gass. For each performance, they are joined by a live full band. They got their start in 1999 and released their self-titled first album in 2001. Their most popular song off of the album was “Tribute,” a top ten hit.
Their second album, The Pick of Destiny, came out in 2006 and is the soundtrack for their movie, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. They have also been featured in other movies such as Bio-Dome, The Cable Guy, Cradle Will Rock, Saving Silverman, and movies in which Black has starred, Shallow Hal, School of Rock, The Holiday, Tropic Thunder, and Gulliver’s Travels. They have also been on a number of TV spots like the American Music Awards, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Saturday Night Live, and the MTV Video Music Awards.
Tenacious D has performed a number of shows on an international level. In 2008, they were part of the Reading and Leeds Festivals, in 2010 they performed at BlizzCon in California, as well as at the Bonnaroo Music Festival. In 2011, they opened for the Foo Fighters for the Australian and New Zealand leg of the Wasting Light tour. The Rise of the Fenix tour kicks off May 23 in Santa Barbara, CA and will travel across the U.S., Europe, and Canada.
