The Boston Celtics have seen their regular season come to a close, and playoff basketball lies ahead. First up for the C’s: the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Atlanta Hawks.
The Celtics and Hawks enter their first round matchup having finished the regular season with identical 48-34 records. The Hawks won the tie-breaker to claim the fourth seed by having a better head-to-head record in the regular season, having taken 3 of 4 from the Celtics. The teams met most recently just Saturday evening in Atlanta, with the Hawks prevailing by a score of 118-107.
The biggest key for the Celtics will be to shut down Atlanta’s top three scorers, forward Paul Millsap, point guard Jeff Teague, and center Al Horford. In Boston’s lone win against the Hawks on November 13, the three were held to a combined 33 points, one of the lowest totals of the entire season. In the three meetings since, all perhaps not so coincidentally losses, the trio has averaged over 55 points per game.
Games one and two, slated for Saturday and Tuesday night, will be played in Atlanta, with games 3 (Friday, April 22), 4 (Sunday, April 24), and if necessary 6 (Thursday, April 28) set to be played at TD Garden.
