At 2-6 early in the season, the Red Sox seem a little bit lost. Last night’s 12 inning 6-5 loss did little to ease the worries of Red Sox Nation. Daisuke Matsuzaka took the mound for what would be his quickest start of his career, going one inning and giving up five runs. It was Daisuke’s second sub par start of the year leaving many to wonder if the WBC is to blame. The Red Sox suspect early season arm fatigue for Daisuke.
There were some bright spots for the Red Sox last night, including in the middle of the batting order. Boston got RBI’s from Youkilis, Drew, Bay and Lowell. The Red Sox bullpen also held the A’s scoreless from the 2nd inning up to the 12th inning with Masterson pitching four great innings after Matsuzaka left the game.
Boston will try to salvage a win out of this Oakland series today when they send Tim Wakefield to the mound. After tonight the Red Sox will travel back to the friendly confines of Fenway Park when they host the Baltimore Orioles on Friday April 17th.
Red Sox tickets are available for all 2009 games.
