Chien-Ming Wang struggled last Saturday as he gave up eight runs on eight hits in just one inning, resulting in a 4-22 loss for New York. The Indians lit up the Yanks in the second inning scoring 14 runs with 3 home runs. The line up finished the game with 25 hits to the Yankees 7. Wang has an 0-3 pitching record so far this season, serving up 23 runs in 6 total innings.
Johnny Damon had some less than reassuring words for his starting pitcher. “He’s making it real tough on our bullpen right now. We have to count on guys in our ‘pen to go seven or eight innings. We have six losses on the year right now, and he’s got three of them.” He continued to criticize Wang, saying “in all three of those games, we’ve been blown out and we’ve had to go to our bullpen, so maybe our bullpen’s not sharp the following days. I don’t know what more to say, but hopefully he can figure it out, because it’d be tough to keep on going like this.”
The Yankees came back on Sunday with a 7-3 win over the Indians, but it still doesn’t nearly make up for one of the worst losses in their 108 year history. The Yanks will next make their way to Oakland to face the A’s before traveling to Boston to face the Red Sox for three weekend games.
