The New York Jets are coming off of a disappointing 4-12 campaign in 2007 and look to make strides towards reaching the playoffs in 2008. With The New England Patriots in their division, the Jets will have a tough time capturing the title and will be aiming for an AFC wild card bid.
Season schedule and preview listed below! Home games are bolded.
Week 1 – Sunday, 09/07/08 1:00 PM @ Miami WCBS – The Jets are happy to see the Dolphins in Week 1, NY beat them twice last season for half of their wins as a team.
Week 2 – Sunday, 09/14/08 4:15 PM New England WCBS – This one will not be pretty. The Pats will look to demolish the Jets at their home opener, leaving their cameras in New England.
Week 3 – Monday, 09/22/08 8:30 PM @ San Diego ESPN – After getting demolished by the Pats, it doesn’t get any easier having to travel across the country to SD only to be handed another double digit loss for the second week in a row.
Week 4 – Sunday, 09/28/08 1:00 PM Arizona FOX – This game will feature two teams that have struggled in recent years. It should be a pretty even match up.
Week 5 – BYE Week
Week 6 – Sunday, 10/12/08 1:00 PM Cincinnati WCBS – If the Jets want any shot at making the playoffs, this is a game that they will need to win. The key will be limiting passing yardage and forcing the Bengals to run the football.
Week 7 – Sunday, 10/19/08 4:15 PM @ Oakland WCBS – On the road the Jets should be able to still handle the Raiders lackluster offense and come away with this victory.
Week 8 – Sunday, 10/26/08 1:00 PM Kansas City WCBS – Another big game for the Jets playoff hopes. Will need to see a very solid showing from Chad Pennington and the Jets defense will need to come up with a few turnovers for them to pull out a win.
Week 9 – Sunday, 11/02/08 1:00 PM @ Buffalo WCBS – Buffalo beat the Jets twice last season, once by a field goal and the other in a close 10 point game. This will be another battle as both teams still see themselves in the playoff picture at this point in the year.
Week 10 -Sunday, 11/09/08 1:00 PM St. Louis FOX – The Rams will be the Jets last game vs. Mediocre teams for a few weeks, so they need to capitalize before the face the big boys.
Week 11 – Thursday, 11/13/08 8:15 PM @ New England NFL Network – Do we really even need to get into this one? Pats dominated the Jets on the road, this one is in their own back yard and if the Pats wanted to put 75 points up on the board in this one, they could.
Week 12 – Sunday, 11/23/08 TBA* @ Tennessee TBA* – The Titans have had a very strong year led by QB Vince Young and for Jets are not very happy to see him throw for 2 TD’s and run from another in another road loss.
Week 13 – Sunday, 11/30/08 TBA* Denver TBA* – After two tough weeks on the road, the Jets return to home only to face the Broncos whom are eyeing the playoffs. This could be a make or break game for the Jets if they want any shot at qualifying for the post-season.
Week 14 – Sunday, 12/07/08 TBA* @ San Francisco TBA* – Jets make the trip to the Bay area worth it and take care of business vs. this rag-a-muffin 49er’s line up.
Week 15 – Sunday, 12/14/08 TBA* Buffalo TBA* – With three weeks remaining in the regular season, many predict the Jets can secure a playoff spot by winning two of the three games. This week 15 match up vs. Buffalo, at home, will be that deciding game.
Week 16 – Sunday, 12/21/08 TBA* @ Seattle TBA* – Seahawks are too strong on both the offensive and defensive lines and they run all over the Jets for the win.
Week 17 – Sunday, 12/28/08 TBA* Miami TBA* – This game could determine a playoff birth or an early off-season for the Jets. Luckily for them it’s against the worst team in the NFL and at home.
The Jets 2008 schedule certainly leaves them with a chance to qualify for the post season but it will take a healthy Chad Pennington, and another solid season by RB Thomas Jones to even have a chance.
