Jason Bay Leads Sox to Mothers Day Victory

By on May 11, 2009 in ,

Jason Bay has continued to hit at a torrid pace. The Sox left fielder went 2-for-4 on Sunday night, including a long double in the 8th to put the Sox ahead for good. In the past week, Bay is hitting .379 with 9 runs, 4 homers, 14 RBI’s, and a stolen base. Bay’s dirt dog playing style, late-game heroics, and no-nonsense attitude harken back to old-school Sox outfielders.

Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon got himself into and out of a jam in the 9th. Akinori Iwamura walked, advanced on an error, and made it to third on a Jason Bartlett single. Papelbon stuck out Carlos Pena, BJ Upton, Carl Crawford, and  strike out swinging to end the game. “There”s not a lot of guys in the league that can do that,” Sox manager Terry Francona told the AP. “That’s not any easy thing to do. I don’t care who you are.” The Sox have a 20-12 record on the year, good for second place in the American League East.
