Ross Powers Red Sox Past Rays

Red Sox left fielder Cody Ross belted a solo home run to center field in the third inning, racking up 4 RBI’s in total to lead Boston past the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 yesterday at Tropicana Field. The Sox posted three runs in the first three innings and held off the Rays from there, rebounding from their lack of offensive production in Wednesday’s 2-1 loss.

Felix Doubront (4-1) allowed two runs and six hits over 5 2/3 innings to earn his third consecutive win. Ross and Dustin Pedroia contributed multiple hits and Marlon Byrd also homered for Boston. “We always have pretty good series against the Rays,” shortstop Mike Aviles said. “The fact they won (Wednesday) in a close game, and another close game today, it’s definitely good to get that win.”
