Brandon Bass scored 27 points on 9-for-13 shooting, outscoring the Philadelphia 76ers himself in the third quarter to lead the Boston Celtics to win 101-85 and take a 3-2 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The six-year veteran stepped up at a crucial time as the team recognized Game 5 as a must-win situation.

“It was one of those games we needed something to ignite us together,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. “I thought the biggest difference was his energy. He played with a force. I thought he just let himself go.”

Rajon Rondo controlled the tempo during his 39 minutes on the floor, dishing out 14 assists while collecting 13 points. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce chipped in 20 and 16. Elton Brand led the Sixers with 19 points from 8-of-13 shooting. Game 6 is set for Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Center with Game 7 lined up for Saturday if necessary.
