Going back to last season, the Red Sox have now beaten the New York Yankees nine times in a row. Despite having their ace on the hill, the Yankees succumbed to an 8th inning rally that put the Sox ahead for good. Through the first seven innings, Sabathia held the Sox to just one run; David Ortiz hit his fourth homer of the season in the second inning. Sabathia struggled when he came back out in the 8th, giving up a run and allowing three baserunners. Drew, Bay, and Lowell would all drive in runs that were charged to the Yankee starter. “It definitely stings a lot,” Sabathia said in a post-game press conference. “We lost a ball game we probably should have won. But the bottom line is we have a lot of games left.”
The Sox and Yankees do not meet again until the first week of August .
