The Boston Red Sox have traded All Star third baseman Kevin Youkilis to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for utility man Brent Lillibridge and right-hander Zach Stewart. The emergence of 23-year old Will Middlebrooks forced the Red Sox to take action, adding depth to the roster while allowing Youkilis to continue working as an everyday player.
“There is no way we are not a better team with Kevin Youkilis,” said White Sox captain Paul Konerko. “He is just too good of a player and has been through all the wars and is still relatively a young guy. We just have to keep him on the field. If that is the case, it could be one of the bigger steals of the season.”
Youkilis tripled in his last at-bat in Red Sox uniform and was removed for a pinch runner to a standing ovation during Boston’s 9-4 win over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. The Sox are next scheduled to welcome the Toronto Blue Jays for three games starting tonight at 7:10 PM. Boston Red Sox tickets are now available!
