David Ortiz sent a solo shot deep to right field for his 400th career home run but the Red Sox couldn’t cap the night on top, falling to the Oakland A’s 3-2 yesterday at O.co Coliseum. Ortiz is the sixth player to reach 400 home runs while in a Red Sox uniform and the first since Manny Ramirez in 2005.
The Oakland crowd certainly appreciated the milestone, offering Ortiz a standing ovation when he approached the plate for his next at bat in the sixth inning. “Of course, everyone’s just waiting for it,” said Red Sox outfielder Cody Ross. “It seems like every pitch, he’s got that chance to do it. As soon as it went in the air, it’s just that sigh of relief, I know for him especially, to get that weight off his shoulder.”
The Red Sox are now 42-40 and 7 1/2 behind in the Division standings. They will look to turn things around this weekend at home against the AL East leading New York Yankees. Find the best available Red Sox vs. Yankees tickets here at AceTicket.com!
