Yankees Hope to Bring In Lee

The New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners are currently discussing a deal that could send left-hander Cliff Lee to the Bronx for top prospects Jesus Montero and David Adams. The Mariners have also spoke with the Rays, Twins, Rangers and Reds, but it seems as though New York is the best candidate to reach agreement. Lee, a 2x All-Star has earned an 8-3 record with a 2.34 ERA so far this season.

The Yankees have had a hard time with the Lee over the past few seasons, including their only two losses to the Philadelphia Phillies with him on the mound in the 2009 World Series. Lee is scheduled to start tonight against the Yankees at Safeco Field in the second installment of a four-game series. If the deal progresses it’s possible that Seattle will pull him out of the lineup before game time.

In addition to the Lee contract in the works, New York fans will have more to cheer about knowing outfielder Nick Swisher was just recently voted into the 2010 All-Star game, beating out Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis for the remaining AL spot. “When I finally got the news it was great. All my teammates were excited that it happened. That’s the greatest thing,” said Swisher. “Especially coming on a fan vote like that, it shows how important our fans are. Then again, they’re the reason we are who we are.” Swisher will represent the Yankees alongside Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter, Phil Hughes, Andy Pettitte, CC Sabathia and Mariano Rivera.
