The coming attractions at the Comcast Center through the end of July kick off with American Idols Live this Saturday. This live concert event of America’s favorite sing-off show will feature the Top 10 finalists from the latest season, Season 9 of American Idol, giving everyone a chance to watch their favorite contestant perform despite that they may not have won. The contestants of Season 9 were massively popular among the public. The top two- winner Lee DeWyze, who never landed in the bottom 3 all season, and Crystal Bowersox, who brought the charisma to the cast, will be among the performers. Performing alongside the top 2 will be the other 8 finalists, Casey James, Michael Lynche, Aaron Kelly, Siobhan Magnus, Tim Urban, Andrew Garcia, Katie Stevens, Didi Benami, Paige Miles and Lacey Brown.
Santana and Steve Winwood are scheduled to visit the Comcast Center next Friday, July 23rd, and having just proposed to longtime girlfriend Cindy Blackman during a show in Illinois last Friday, Santana is looking to show his love the way he does best: through music. Currently putting the finishing touches in his upcoming album called Guitar Heaven, Santana and tour mate Winwood provide a trip down memory lane with a rock-fusion jam that fully utilizes their 10-piece band.
The Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival is coming to the Comcast on Tuesday, July 27th for a metal-heavy day featuring some of the biggest names in hard rock, including: Stemm, Korn, Rob Zombie, Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch, Atreyu, Norma Jean, 3 Inches of Blood, In This Moment, Hatebreed, Chimaira, Shadows Fall and Winds of Plague. Not to be outshone, the Honda Civic Tour may not have as many names on program, but the pairing of Paramore and Tegan and Sara is just as show stopping. Though Paramore is a fresh, young band (its fiery front girl Hayley Williams just 21 years old), their latest release Brand New Eyes has proved to be a success, ranked 20 of Spin Magazine’s Top 40 albums of 2009. The Honda Civic Tour takes place Wednesday July 28th.
Backed by the 45-piece Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and conductor Steven Mercurio as well as his own three-piece band, Sting will be appearing at the Comcast Center as part of his Symphonicity tour on July 29th. The show is likely to include inspiring arrangements of classic hits from his days as front man of the Police to his more middle-of-the-road solo career. Sting is likely to play all of your favorite songs in new and exciting arrangements that show off his musical and artistic genius two Thursdays from today.
And closing the month of July at the Comcast Center is the women’s music festival. Sarah McLachlan’s Lilith Fair has a star-studded lineup this year: the headlining acts are Carly Simon, Sarah McLachlan and Cat Power, joined by Zee Avi, Kelly Clarkson, Tegan and Sara, Missy Higgins, Serena Ryder, Ann Atomic, Sara Bareilles and the to-be-announced winning Ourstage artist. While the festival began because women weren’t being included in music festivals, 2010 is a pivotal year in the race for equality with Lady Gaga as a headliner for Chicago’s Lollapalooza. While the month of July is jam backed with great shows at the Comcast Center, there’s only more to come for the rest of summer.
