Red Sox DH David Ortiz is thinking positively about returning to the lineup soon, as he recently felt no pain for the first time since straining his right Achilles in mid-July. The 15-year veteran was scheduled to be activated on Wednesday but his progress has since been delayed.
Ortiz will be hitting in the cage this week and will also participate in agility drills. “His batting practice was great (on Tuesday), but he was still a little hesitant to run or jump or move quickly,” said Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine. “He said today when he woke up was the first day he had no pain walking. He’s getting closer.”
The Red Sox fell to the Detroit Tigers 7-5 last night and will next host the Minnesota Twins at Fenway for four games starting tonight at 7:10 PM. They are currently 8 1/2 games behind in the Division and 3 1/2 games out of the Wild Card race. Find the best available Boston Red Sox tickets here at Ace!
