Red Sox Return to Fenway, Finally

By on August 10, 2009 in ,

After losing six straight against their division rivals Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees, The Boston Red Sox will return to Fenway Park in desperate need of a win.  Since being swept by New York last weekend the Sox find themselves 6.5 games behind in the AL East standings.  Tampa Bay has just recently become a threat, now just 1.5 games apart from Boston.  Captain Jason Varitek is certain that his club will make a comeback, saying “we do have a long part of our season left. This team, we have too many good characters on this team. This team won’t quit.”

Hoping to turn things around, the Red Sox will host the Detroit Tigers for a 4-game series this week.  Brad Penny will be getting the first start for Boston against the 8-5 Edwin Jackson.  Penny is 7-6 for the Red Sox with a 5.20 ERA.  The first game is scheduled to start tonight at 7:10 pm. “We’re going to keep on fighting,” said Red Sox DH David Ortiz. “There’s nothing else you can do but play. We’ll try to change things around. Everything’s going really bad right now, but the next day, we’ll come to the field and turn the page, come back and play.”

Tickets for the Boston Red Sox are available now!
