Youkilis, Porcello Suspended Five Games

Boston Red Sox first basemen Kevin Youkilis and Detroit Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello have both received five game suspensions for instigating a bench clearing brawl last night at Fenway.  Porcello’s suspension came with throwing pitches intentionally at Victor Martinez in the first inning and at Youkilis later in the second.  After Youkilis was hit, he immediately charged the mound and threw his helmet at the pitcher before pinning him to the ground.  Even though both benches were cleared, there were no punches thrown and order was reached just minutes later.  Youkilis and Porcello are both appealing their suspensions knowing it will delay the process.

The Red Sox and Tigers are set to square off again tonight at Fenway Park at 7:10 pm.  The 13-4 Josh Beckett will be making his start for the series against Armando Galarraga.
