Red Sox Pounce on Detroit

Red Sox ace Josh Beckett struck out six over seven innings and allowed just three hits,  as Boston went on to convincingly defeat the Detroit Tigers 8-2 Wednesday night at Fenway Park.  Beckett’s performance led him to his 14th win, and kept the Sox at 5 1/2 games back in the AL East standings.  “It’s a blast to play behind him.” said Jason Bay after the game. “He has Cy Young stuff. Every team needs that guy — that stopper, that ace. Right now, he’s that and then some.” Bay helped get things going on the offensive end with a two-run shot over the monster in the bottom of the third.

Kevin Youkilis was out after being suspended for five-games for charging the mound Tuesday night.  Even with Youk out, the Sox didn’t miss a beat knowing Mike Lowell was back in the lineup.  Lowell started the run production early for Boston in the second with a solo homerun. After Bays homer the Red Sox really put it away in the fifth inning, scoring five more runs and never looking back.

Boston will look to close the series at home with a win today at 1:35 pm, before heading to Texas for a three-game series against the Rangers.
