Branch Safe as Gaffney, Stallworth Headline Patriots Cuts

The New England Patriots have been forced to make several tough decisions as they trim their roster down to 75 players. Veteran receivers Jabar Gaffney and Donte’ Stallworth were among the many players released by the Patriots earlier this week. Both players signed free-agent contracts with New England in the spring with hopes to gain roster spots. Deion Branch is now ranked as the team’s No. 3 receiver behind Brandon Lloyd and Wes Welker.

Knowing Gaffney and Stallworth were both key contributors to the remarkable Patriots offense in 2007, it seemed that the 33-year old Branch had run his course in New England. It’s clear that Branch is still around due to his knowledge of the Patriots system and his relationship with quarterback Tom Brady.

The Pats are scheduled to matchup against the New York Giants tonight at MetLife Stadium. There has been no confirmation as to whether Brady will start tonight. Notable players expected to sit out include Patrick Chung, Stevan Ridley, Brandon Spikes, Shane Vereen and Visanthe Shiancoe. New England Patriots tickets are now available!
