Penny Finds Comfort in Giants Uniform

In his debut as a San Francisco Giant, Brad Penny pitched for eight scoreless innings and helped his team coast to a 4-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. He threw 64 strikes out of 102 pitches and surrendered just five hits.

“This is what you put a uniform on for, to get in the playoffs and play in the World Series,” said Penny after the game. “The reason I came here is, you get in a five-game series, with the pitching these guys here … I mean, you’ve got a good chance to win. This team is going to be real dangerous and people aren’t going to want to play them if they’re in the playoffs.”

It seems as though Penny has taken a quick liking to his new team after a good outing.  With the win the Giants have moved to just one game out of the NL Wild Card chase.  Penny during his time in Red Sox gear (AL Wild Card leaders) held a 5.61 ERA with a 7-8 record.  Following his best game in his last 28 starts, Penny has discovered things to be a bit sunnier on the West Coast.
