The New England Patriots wasted no time finding a suitable player to fill the void left by Aaron Hernandez, signing veteran tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. to a one-year contract Tuesday morning. Hernandez injured his right ankle in the first quarter of New England’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday and won’t be expected to return until mid-October at the earliest.
Winslow will enable the Pats to continue running their two-tight end sets alongside Rob Gronkowski. The nine-year veteran TE visited New England for a workout two weeks ago. He caught 75 passes for 763 yards and two touchdowns last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Seattle Seahawks released him in a surprising move in early September. The Patriots are now gearing up for the Baltimore Ravens, set to battle at M&T Bank Stadium this coming Sunday. Purchase your New England Patriots tickets right here with us at Ace!
