ACE Boston Player Feature: Wes Welker

After a few weeks of disappointment, Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker has returned to form. In this past week’s matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, Welker was back to performing at a very high level. He finished second on the team with eight catches on ten targets. His 142 receiving yards led the team and doubled his total from the first two games of the season. His first catch of the game went for 59 yards in the first quarter and he continued to build from there. He was held out of the end zone for the third game in a row but overall, Welker was impressive.

Welker was able to have a productive game despite all of the rumors going around regarding his contract. The concerns about his contract and future status may linger on throughout the season but it seems that Welker will continue to be the productive receiver we all know him as. He has much experience against Buffalo, the team’s Week 4 opponent. He has 906 yards on 84 catches against them in 16 games.

Patriots president Jonathan Kraft said during an interview on 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston that he is hopeful that Wes Welker finishes his career as a Patriot. He said, “I know there’s been a lot of chatter about Wes this week, and Wes is an important part of the team, and Wes is somebody that we tried this offseason to sign long term, and we just weren’t able to get there. That’s not a function of either side doing something wrong, I think it’s just a matter of, when you sit down at a negotiating table and two sides have a perception about what’s right, and you get to close, and you just can’t get all the way there. And that’s what the situation was with Wes. I’m hopeful that Wes will finish his career a New England Patriot.”

We hope so too. Grab your New England Patriot tickets here.
