Nas and Lauryn Hill are two of hip-hop’s most influential voices. In September they announced their Life Is Good/Black Rage tour. The tour will kick off on October 29 in Dallas, TX and conclude in Oakland, CA on November 19 after 10 shows.
“Life Is Good” is the name of Nas’ most recent album. The album debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 in August. “Black Rage,” on the other hand, will be Lauryn Hill’s next single which is set to debut this fall. The single addresses the “derivative effects of racial inequity and abuse.” It aims to juxtapose “life is good.”
Lauryn Hill comments on this, “I use the performance platform as an opportunity to express the energy of that moment, and the intention behind it. I’ve been a long standing rebel against the stale, over commoditization. As artists we have the opportunity to help the public evolve, raise consciousness and awareness, teach, heal, enlighten and inspire in ways the democratic process may not be able to touch. So we keep moving.”
The pair performed together at the Hot 97 Summer Jam in June. Hill was also featured on Nas’ single “If I Ruled the World” in 1996. The pair has been trying to tour together for a while. “This is history,” Nas said. “Better late than never. Life is good!”
They will be at Boston’s House of Blues on Sunday, November 11. Get tickets here.
