Cliff Lee struck out eleven batters through nine innings to lift his Texas Rangers past the Tampa Bay Rays in yesterday’s ALDS Game 5 battle at Tropicana Field. After leading the series 2-0, the Rangers found themselves with their backs against the wall as Tampa rallied on the road to even the score. Fortunately for Texas, Lee was there to push his team to the Conference Championship while claiming his sixth consecutive post-season victory in the process.
The Rangers have now won their first ever playoff series during their 50 years as an MLB franchise. “It’s unbelievable. Something we’re proud of because it’s never happened in Texas before,” said MVP candidate Josh Hamilton. “Hopefully, we can take it to the next level.” The Rangers will next host the New York Yankees for Games 1 and 2 of the American League Championship Series starting Thursday, October 15th. The series will then shift to Yankee Stadium for three games before returning to Rangers Ballpark for Games 6 and 7 if necessary.
The Yankees fell just one game short of the Rays in the AL East Division after finishing the regular season at 95-67. The defending champs are ready to recapture the title after making a statement in their sweep over the Minnesota Twins. “I think last year was a tremendous year but you know what, you’ve got to move on,” said outfielder Nick Swisher. “It’s 2010 and we’ve got ourselves in a great spot. Different personnel, same attitude.” Game 1 will feature pitchers CC Sabathia and CJ Wilson. Purchase your ALCS tickets right here with us at Ace!
