The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have announced their annual holiday shows, the Hometown Throwdown 15. The ska punk band will play in the band’s home town of Boston at the House of Blues.
The band formed in 1983 by lead vocalist Dicky Barrett, bassist Joe Gittleman, tenor saxophonist Tim Johnny Vegas Burdton and dancer (Bosstone) Ben Carr. Currently the line-up also includes drummer Joe Sirois, guitarist Lawrence Katz, trombonist Chris Rhodes and saxophonist Kevin Lenear. The Bosstones are often credited as one of the pioneers of the ska punk genre and the creators of its sub-genre ska-core (mixing ska, punk rock and hardcore).
Their debut album, Devil’s Night Out, was released in 1989. It sparked excessive touring and recording throughout the 1990s. The band released seven studio albums, three EPs and a live album before their hiatus in December 2003. The Bosstones reunited for more recording in touring in 2007, however. Their latest album, The Magic of Youth was released on December 6, 2011.
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones will play three shows at the House of Blues on December 29, 30 and 31. You can get your tickets here with Ace.
