Royal Makes History, Broncos Stay Perfect

By on October 20, 2009 in

Eddie Royal last night became the first player in Denver Broncos history to return a kickoff and punt for touchdowns in one game, as his squad went on to outplay the San Diego Chargers 34-23.  The win at Qualcomm Stadium kept the Broncos undefeated with a 6-0 regular season record.

QB Kyle Orton had a slow start but finished with 229 passing yards and two TD’s from his 20 total game completions. Orton certainly did his job but it was Royal who collected the game ball following Monday nights featured contest.  “Man, it was a great feeling. The guys did a great job of blocking,” he said of the second return. “I’ve got to give them a lot of credit. They opened up the seams and it was a home run.”

The Broncos after a bye week will next look forward to matching up with the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, November 11th. The Chargers have a game coming right up against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday at 1:00 PM.
