Jayson Werth knocked one of his two game home runs in the bottom of the first inning to bring in Chase Utley and Ryan Howard. From there the Philadelphia Phillies were World Series bound for their second appearance in two seasons, eventually closing this year’s NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-4 last night at Citizens Bank Park.
Shane Victorino and Pedro Feliz also homered for Philadelphia, but it was Werth who got the lineup going with three hits, three runs scored and four RBIs. “Big games call for big times,” said Werth. “Hopefully, we can keep it going. We’ve got four more games to win.”
Cole Hamels on the mound to start let in three runs in five innings pitched with three strike outs. Following his exit the bullpen really held LA’s hitting to a minimum, allowing just three hits and one run for the rest of the game. The Phillies will now wait for the Yankees Angels series to wrap up (Game 5 tonight at 7:57 PM) before the 2009 World Series can officially start up.
