Patriots Cut DT Albert Haynesworth

The New England Patriots released veteran Albert Haynesworth on Tuesday following another disheartening performance by the defensive lineman in Sunday’s 24-20 loss to the New York Giants. Haynesworth had only been on the field for 133 snaps out of the 561 taken against the Pats this season.

It’s been rumored that Haynesworth had words with Patriots assistant coach Pepper Johnson on the sideline after getting overpowered by Giants guard David Diehl. Haynesworth told reporters Wednesday that he was focused and working to see more game action. “If, God forbid, I get cut from this team, I know I can go out there and play for another team, but I feel like this is going to be my last place I’m going to play,” he said. “If it doesn’t work out here, I’m not going to play anywhere else.”

The Patriots are looking ahead to their Week 9 matchup against their AFC East rival New York Jets Sunday, November 13th. Their December 4th home game against the Colts has been flexed from prime-time to 1 PM ET, a decision that figures to be welcomed by the team’s fans.
