Jets Take First, Beat Patriots in OT

The New England Patriots may have lost to the New York Jets, but they walked away from the game knowing that quarterback Matt Cassel can put up Brady-like numbers. Cassel completed 30 of 51 passes for 400 yards and three touchdowns, in addition to running for 62 yards. A Jay Feely field goal would end it in overtime giving the New York Jets sole possession of first place in the AFC East.

Just before the end of the 1st half the Brett Favre and the Jets had built a 24-6 lead, simply dominating the Patriots.  The Patriots were able to add 7 points to close out the half, setting up a big comeback in the next half.  The Patriots put up the first points of the third quarter with a ten yard TD pass to Benjamin Watson.  A field goal in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter knotted the game at 24 apiece.  The Jets would take the lead once again on a TD run by Thomas Jones.  The Patriots would get one more chance to tie the game, getting the ball back with 1:04 left and no timeouts.  Cassell was simply brilliant in leading the Patriots down the field.  The drive culminated in a fourth down TD pass to Randy Moss with just one second left sending this one to OT.

The Patriots had stolen the momentum going into OT but the Jets won the toss and would get the first chance to end the game.  Brett Favre led a masterful series of drives eventually setting up Jay Feely’s 34yrd game winning field goal.

The New York Jets will be hoping to ride the momentum from this game to their matchup with the undefeated Titans on 11/23.  Now that they are in first it will be tough stay there.  The Patriots on the other hand will be hoping to force a tie for first when they play the Miami Dolphins on 11/23.  Jets tickets and Patriots tickets are available for all remaining games.
