Yankees’ Pettitte Likely Returning in 2013

By on November 27, 2012 in

Veteran left-hander Andy Pettitte has begun his offseason training in order to test how his body would hold up if he returned to the New York Yankees for the 2013 season. Pettitte wasn’t willing to commit to the Yankees last winter until he knew his body was ready.

After spending all of the 2011 season retired, Pettitte came back in May of 2012 to play for the Bombers. He posted a 5-4 record with a 2.87 ERA. He took a line drive off his ankle in June, however, limiting him to just 12 starts.

The 40-year old is expected to sign a contract worth slightly over $11 million. Pettitte suggested that he’d probably come back but he hasn’t been heard from in the six weeks since the season ended. The Yankees expect to hear from Pettitte within the next few days about whether he intends to pitch again or retire.
