Ray Allen netted 9-of-14 from the field to produce a game-high 28 points as the Boston Celtics went on to defeat the Denver Nuggets 105-89 Wednesday at the TD Garden. Nuggets small forward Carmelo Anthony was scratched from the lineup due to inflammation in his right knee. After the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated Boston earlier this season without their franchise player Kevin Durant, Celtics coach Doc Rivers decided not to inform his team of Anthony’s absence until just minutes before tipoff.
The Celtics outscored the Nuggets 35-21 by the end of the first quarter and never conceded the lead from there. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett contributed 17 points apiece. Glen Davis came up with 16 points, six rebounds and three steals during his 27 minutes on the floor. Rajon Rondo put up just three shot attempts for 4 points while dishing out 13 assists.
“We’re getting stops and we’re running and getting Rondo in the open court because of our stops,” said Rivers. “The ball finds the open guy.” The Celtics are scheduled to face the Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Bobcats and New York Knicks on the road before they return to the Garden to host the Atlanta Hawks Thursday, December 16th.
