The Anaheim Ducks rallied with four goals in the third period to win over the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 last night in Denver. Following a 2-0 Colorado lead 12 minutes into the final block, Scott Niedermayer found the net to begin the late-game steam rolling. Minutes later Dan Sexton notched a goal before Ryan Getzlaf broke the tie with just 26 seconds left to play. Todd Merchant added the empty net stat to wrap up the thrilling yet unforeseen comeback.
Sexton knew his team was giving the right amount of effort each period, despite their only offensive production coming in the last portion of the contest. “We played pretty consistent through the whole game,” said Sexton. “The first goal was huge for us because it kind of broke the ice for us and we were able to get a few more right after that. They had some big goals, but we carried the play.” The Ducks are next set to matchup with the Phoenix Coyotes tonight as the Avalanche wait until Saturday to host the Dallas Stars.
