My Bloody Valentine hasn’t released an album in 17 years. Up until earlier this year, they had not gone on a proper tour in 15 years. Their die-hard fans’ patience was rewarded by a string of European festival appearances, as well as a string of dates across North America. The legendary shoegaze band brought their ear-splitting show back on the road – and didn’t seem to have missed a beat since the early 90’s.
What has fans really excited is the prospect of a new My Bloody Valentine album finally being finished. MBV mastermind Kevin Shields finally seems to have found his motivation to finish the follow up to 1991’s Loveless. “I realized that all that stuff I was doing in 1996 and 1997 was a lot better than I thought” Shields told the New York Time’s Jon Pareles. According to Shields, the band plans to finish the partially-completed album, as well as record new material as well. Rumors of an extensive world tour in support of those albums have been heard as well.
In the short term, a reissue of MBV classic Loveless is scheduled to be released in January of 2009.
